We’re currently undergoing recruitment for a Machine Operative – Vertical Form Fill Machine, for our newest client.

Main roles and responsibilities:

• Set up, operate, and monitor VFFS packing machines during production runs.
• Load and check packaging film, product, and materials to ensure correct usage.
• Adjust machine settings (temperature, sealing, weights, and coding) to maintain efficiency and product quality.
• Perform in-line quality checks, including seal integrity, weight control, and print accuracy.
• Follow allergen management procedures and maintain product traceability.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and company standards (BRC/IFS, HACCP, etc.).
• Record and report any non-conformances or product issues promptly.
• Work to daily production targets for throughput, yield, and waste reduction.
• Carry out basic fault finding and minor adjustments to minimise downtime.
• Escalate technical or persistent machine issues to the engineering/maintenance team.
• Keep machines and the surrounding work area clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
• Adhere to health & safety policies, including correct use of PPE, manual handling, and machine safety protocols.
• Complete routine cleaning of equipment to prevent contamination and allergen risks.
• Collaborate with line leaders, QA, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth production flow.
• Share ideas for process improvements and efficiency gains.
• Provide support and cover for colleagues when required.

Skills and requirements:

• Previous experience operating food packing or VFFS machines preferred (training provided for suitable candidates).
• Understanding of food safety and quality systems (BRC, HACCP, allergen controls).
• Good problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and escalate issues quickly.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Physically fit to meet the demands of manual handling and shift work.
